Announcing Emerge… with the University of Liverpool

 In LAB Blog

LAB by Capacity is happy to announce a new partnership with the University of Liverpool. This brand-new venture will see twenty students from the University attending twelve weekly sessions at LAB, where they will learn everything they need to know to take their business idea to market.

The Emerge start up programme is currently taking applications and will commence at the end of March. There are twenty spaces to be filled by young entrepreneurs who are ready to bring their business idea to life. The successful applicants will be announced shortly after the University of Liverpool Spring Fair on 6th March.

Chris Witterick, Head of Operations at LAB by Capacity said:

This is a great opportunity for us to continue our work helping commercial and social start-ups across the city region. We worked hard last year to establish an enviable network of successful business people, happy to give up their time to help guide LAB members through the early stages of their business journey, so when we first spoke to the university, it seemed like an obvious match.  We wanted to give the students a taste of what it is really like to operate a successful business in a very challenging environment, and to help them appreciate that initial failure isn’t necessarily the end of the road. Running a business can be a tough but rewarding journey, and we feel that this programme will help to build up the resilience needed to be a highly successful entrepreneur.

Over the course of the programme, students will attend a course of workshops and masterclasses delivered by some of the city’s leading businesses professionals, who have faced many of the difficulties that come with launching a business first-hand. Students will learn everything from how to write a sustainable business plan, to nailing a USP, to identifying the most effective routes to market. The programme will then culminate in a pitch to a panel of investors and mentors. The winner of the pitch event will receive £1000 cash, an iPad Pro and the opportunity to secure real investment for their business.

Joanne Poole, Campus Life Lead, Careers & Employability at the University of Liverpool, added:

We are delighted to be working in partnership with LAB by Capacity to launch Emerge here at the University of Liverpool.  This programme, aimed at our budding entrepreneurs, is aligned to the Industrial Strategy and provides our students with an opportunity to learn from experts, network with likeminded peers and understand the regional growth sectors, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to bring their business ideas to life. The co-working space offered by Capacity will offer our students a taste of working professionally in a vibrant, well-connected city centre office providing an opportunity to learn from other business users, foster crucial relationships and immerse themselves in the wider Liverpool business community.

If you are a current University of Liverpool student and believe you could benefit from the Emerge programme, please apply via the Careers Hub portal. Deadline is 8 March at 5pm.
